We Need Therapy

images-7

A conversation between my mind and my stomach, for your amusement. Henceforth, my mind will be called M, and my stomach will be called S.

M: Hey, did you hear that?! We can eat gluten again!

S: Yippee!!! I’m hungry, let’s do this thing.

M: Oh look, there are cookies. Heads up, here they come!

S: Is it just me, or are these cookies strange?

M: What do you mean “strange”? They’re cookies.

S: Yeah, but M, I’m not so sure about this…

M: Oh my god, freshly baked rolls, S!!!

S: I’m not so sure that’s a good idea…

M: Too late, get ready.

S: Ooh…. You know M, I think we need to go to therapy. You really haven’t been listening to me lately. I try to talk to you and tell you how I feel, but it’s like talking to a wall.

M: Oh please, don’t be so melodramatic. Digest your gluten already, the cake’s going to be out of the oven soon.

S: I am not being melodramatic, M. My feelings are real.

M: Okay, yeah, sure.

S: You don’t believe me?!

M: No. I don’t. What are ya gonna do about it, huh?

S: Oh, I’ll show you what I’m going to do about it. I am sick and tired of this, M. A stomach’s gotta feel like it’s appreciated. I’m out.

M: Where, exactly, do you think you’re going to go? Out where?

S: Out of order.

Uh oh….

Yours Truly,

Ella

This made me laugh because I can so relate! My stomach stops working too (gastroparesis) when I am flaring and it bloats up like I am expecring if I eat anything wrong.

I have to say though, stomachs aren’t great at teamwork sometimes either. I give you vegetables, fruit, and some legumes and you bloat. Yeah, okay. I will just get a pizza next time. Thank God for digestive enzymes!

  6. I can so relate to this! Some days I start feeling good and I think oh a little bit of gluten won’t hurt. Then like you said, “uh Oh”.

Love this posting in a wish you weren’t going through this sort of way. SOunds a lot like my mind and my stomach as well. My mind has come to realize my stomach has its best interest at heart when it comes down to it…yet what happens? My mouth decides to override my mind…leaving my mind with the inevitable, “I told you to listen to your stomach but no, you couldn’t do that could you?” And what choice does my mouth have but to say, ” You’re the one with no will power. I am a slave to your decision in the end.” lol oy…. just did it again today. Technically I can have any of it- however any of it does not fair well with me. Now overweight, with too many chronic conditions, among them ms and fibromyalgia. At any rate I love your writing and your humor and honesty. Thank you. Bette Mae
